MEN’S WORK
Somebody has to kill the cow,
Somebody has to go down the stairs when there is a noise
Somebody has to carry the baby out of the burning building
Somebody has to stoke the fire
Somebody has to find the Golden Fleece
Somebody, when the food runs low, has to go
Somebody has to dig the ditch
Somebody has keep the peace
Somebody has to stand against the advancing tide
Somebody has to open the jar
Somebody has to fight the tears
Somebody has to laugh when the light goes out
Somebody, finally, somebody has to tell the truth
Somebody has to lasso the wind
Somebody has to push this stone up the hill one more time
And though you can do all this
I do it
Because it is what I do.
