GOOD LUCK FOR THE DAY
I’m walking along when I see this middle-aged woman
at the top of a short flight of steps trying to pull a stuffed chair
through a doorway, so I stop and call up to her,
“Would you like some help?”
Checking me out for a moment she smiles and says,
“Sure. . . so long as you won’t rape or kill me!”
Even though I know she’s kidding, my first thought
is to just keep on going. . .
“Oh, you don’t have to worry about that!” I respond
with my own smile, “I’m as harmless as a butterfly!”
Turning the chair on its side, with her taking the front
and me the back, we get it through the doorway in about a minute.
Deciding not to go any further, I say to her,
“Well, good luck with it.” and turn to leave.
“You’re my good luck for the day!” I hear her say,
as I walk down the steps. . .
As a “ahem” older white woman, I can relate. Good imagery for a poem. Will give it a share on FB.
