JEFFREY FIELD – 2 POEMS

Balloon Man (The Saga of Monsoon Man)

Balloon Man is the patriarchal saint of music.
He tastes of grease and lint as he
studies the passing parade.

Balloon Man is the patriarchal saint of cats and trees and birds and girlish ankles and boyish charm.

A picture crashes to the floor, waking Balloon Man. He rises from his self-dug grave, inspects the glass shards now tinkling with delight of having broken free of their bondage.

Waking in the Wild (Walking in the Woods)

How can this be…?
I wake as a breeze blows
tickles of dust across my forearms.
Sitting in stillness,
a Spring robin appears
and I remember where I’m supposed to be,
at home,
writing about waking in the wild.
