DESERT LION – Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal

Desert Lion

I envisioned a desert
lion without a head.
It had no tail or paws.
I did not like how it
had no jaws or roar.
It limped around with
no eyes or tears of
pain. Its back looked
strong. It seemed lost.
The tracks it left would
disappear like the
missing head. The lion
leaned on a tree stump
with its back against
it. When the sun was
the warmest most of its
body would disappear.
In my mind I wondered
if on some days
the lion would be whole.
