JEFF LEWIS – HOMEWARD BOUND

Homeward Bound

The world was younger then
when things seemed larger than today.
You tried to dodge the flaming sword
that guards the gates of Paradise
and get back to where you once belonged,
but it’s no longer what you remembered.
All Dorothy kept saying was she wanted to go home,
but her house wasn’t there anymore
she’d left it somewhere in Oz.

Things you left with such eagerness
aren’t the same as they were.
You get close, but it slips
through fingers grown older now.
You desperately try to bring them back,
but you’re never really at home again,
and make your own from what
you learned along the way.
Just ask the girl from Kansas,
she knew it all along.
