Pleasure
We have gone too far already.
Our life is a mine shaft that we dig
in hopes of finding treasure,
exploiting every vein of our bodies,
excavating the vestiges of our flesh
in the hopes of making it cash.
The canary isn’t singing anymore.
The mountain is caving in.
And in the dark
you can see us grinning,
exposing our teeth
to the light of our torches
like the glowing, golden sun.
